Cervantes is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Ilocos Sur.

The municipality has a land area of 234.70 square kilometers or 90.62 square miles which constitutes 9.04% of Ilocos Sur’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 17,211. This represented 2.50% of the total population of Ilocos Sur province, or 0.34% of the overall population of the Ilocos Region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 73 inhabitants per square kilometer or 190 inhabitants per square mile.

The municipal center of Cervantes is situated at approximately 16° 59′ North, 120° 44′ East, in the island of Luzon. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 499.4 meters or 1,637.9 feet above mean sea level.
